Dr, EwendMatthew Ewend, MD, FACS

Dr. Matthew Ewend is the Chief Clinical Officer of UNC Health Care & President of UNC Physicians. In this role, he has responsibility for the overall physician enterprise of the UNC Health System, a statewide network of 13 hospitals and more than 3,200 employed physicians across 700 affiliated practices. In addition, he oversees the quality program, the value program, and the partnership of UNC Physicians with our hospitals.

In addition, Dr. Ewend is a practicing Neurosurgeon at the UNC School of Medicine, specializing in neuro-oncology. He served as Chair of the Department of Neurosurgery from 2010 until 2019, stepping down to assume the CCO role of UNC Health. He joined the faculty in 1997 after completing medical school, neurosurgery residency, and a brain tumor fellowship at The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Ewend’s clinical interests center on endoscopic and minimally invasive treatment of brain tumors, especially pituitary tumors, skull base tumors, and metastases. His research interest centers on developing genetically-modified, cell-based therapies for treatment of brain tumors.

 

Dr. Lynne FiscusLynne Fiscus, MD, MPH

President & CEO

Dr Lynne Fiscus serves as the President and CEO of UNC Health Medical Group. A Colorado native, her family moved to the Triangle in the 1980s. She graduated from Georgetown University majoring in Theology and then returned to North Carolina for medical school, residency in internal medicine and pediatrics and an MPH all from UNC. Following residency, she traveled to the great cold North practicing in Minneapolis for Fairview Health System serving in local and regional medical director roles and then was recruited to University of Minnesota Health in 2015, where she led the opening of the transformational Clinics and Surgery Center and served as the Executive Medical Director of Ambulatory Clinics. In 2017, she returned to UNC to serve as the Chief Value Officer for UNC Physicians Network, a role taking advantage of her experience in both community and academic settings and was honored to be selected to serve as the President and CEO in March of 2020 (one week before COVID hit North Carolina!)

She has a passion for practice based quality improvement and the connections between workflow, quality and employee and clinician experience. Dr Fiscus has served the American Medical Association as a Practice Transformation Consultant, aiding clinics and health systems in creating joy for clinicians and care team members and value for patients, families, and payers. At UNC Health, she chaired the Primary Care Improvement Collaborative during a period of rapid expansion and Co-Chairs the Primary Care Leadership Council. She continues to practice as a board certified pediatrician and internist at UNC North Chatham Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. She has two rambunctious boys, a rescue dog, and is married to a wonderful structural engineer who has turned her sons into unfortunate Wolfpack fans. In her spare time, she enjoys live music, theater, and exploring the great outdoors with her family.

 

 

Dr. GuptaSachin K. Gupta, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Sachin Gupta, MD, is the Chief Medical Officer & Interim Executive Medical Director, Triangle West for UNC Health Medical Group, as well as a practicing primary care physician at UNC Family Medicine at Panther Creek. He is experienced in managing physician relations and working to build successful clinical teams to create positive patient outcomes.

Dr. Gupta earned his undergraduate degree in biology from Virginia Commonwealth University. He earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine and completed his residency in family medicine from Halifax Medical Center.  He is board-certified in family medicine.

Lisa RosenbergLisa Rosenberg

Chief Operating Officer

Lisa Rosenberg serves as the Chief Operating Officer for UNC Health Medical Group. Originally from Montreal and raised in Boca Raton, Florida, Lisa has proudly called North Carolina home for the last 30 years. This long-standing connection to the Tar Heel state enhances her dedication and passion for improving healthcare for North Carolinians. Lisa’s career spans almost two decades at UNC Health, having held leadership roles in Skilled Nursing Facilities, Home Health, Physician Relations, Ambulatory Operations, and Business Development. She joined UNCHMG in 2015 and has focused her efforts on the development and growth of the entity.

Lisa has successfully led initiatives such as transitioning hospital practices in multiple counties, expanding primary care across the Triangle, integrating Rex Primary and UNC Community-Based practices, and reorganizing operational leadership to support growth. She enjoys balancing the competitive Triangle market with supporting rural communities, while also being passionate about mentoring new leaders and collaborating with colleagues.

Outside of work, Lisa cherishes time with her family—she is married to her husband Jeff and has a daughter, Lily, who is a recent Tar Heel graduate. In her spare time, Lisa enjoys yoga, cheering for the Canes, traveling, and exploring the wonderful museums that North Carolina has to offer.
